I need help with the engines for my fic

Hey there – Does anyone have a schematic of Serenity’s engines? I am looking to find the names of the internal workings and parts for those big guys on the side of the ship. You know the ones that turn and face downward, or that turn around for the Crazy Ivan. The one that Niska’s guy got sucked into.

Also (just opinion here) do you think would be possible for Wash to fly with only one engine? I seem to remember stories of real life flying with only engine, but it was really hard. I was thinking Wash could do something similar. But I do not want to do any thing to far fetched.

Kaylee refers to them as jets in the pilot, as in " Cut the hydraulics in the port jet control", something like that, just before the crazy Ivan.

Opinion: I think those guys are mostly for in atmo flight, maneuvering and landing, like the VTOL ( Verical Take Off and Landing), even tho' we see flaming in some shots in the Black.

The main engine, the big box rotary job in the engine room, with the catalyzer, etc. is used both in vacuum and atmo, but in full burn fusion mode, safely, only in space. Remember, the fusion thing gives off the parasitic light that gave the firefly its name.

As to operating with only only jet, call 'em, it's probably possible, especially in space, but would make for exteremely difficult manuvering , landing, etc.

Finally, Joss ain't a hard tech sci fi guy, so even he doesnt know, and there may not be a consistent theory. If Wash hasta land on one jet, he could do it, although maybe nobody else could. Go for it.
