I've noticed in lots of fanfic that Mal uses the word "woman". Ex:
"You gonna do that, woman?"
or
"Woman, don't you dare..."
Does anyone remember him using "woman" like that in the series? I don't, so when he uses the term that way it strikes me as incredibly false. Or maybe I'm just blanking?

"Woman, you are completely off your nut!" -Trash
That's the only one that comes to mind.

And there's, of course,
"Tactics, woman. I needed her in the back." (Our Mrs. Reynolds).

Thanks, both of you. I guess it is one of those things that just slipped my mind.

Actually, Mal calls Saffron "Woman person", too.

When Mal refers to somebody as "woman," I don't believe he is trying to be sexist or anything. I think it is just one more of those things that Joss put into the script to make is seem more western in culture.
