I was just wondering what people were listening to when reading other people's fanfic. I am also looking for recommendations because I don't really have stuff that I could play as background music for that (my CD collection is a bit one-sided in that respect). I was thinking of something similar to the Serenity and Firefly music. Any ideas or thoughts on that one?

You could go with Classical if you wanted. I recomand Creed, Lynard Skynnard and 3 Doors Down, they have that slightly western or country sound that we hear on the show. That's just my opinion.

Listen to whatever makes ya happy, man.......my tastes run a pretty broad pattern, much of which my wife finds rather frightening. I can go from Rob Zombie to David Bowie, from Willie Nelson to Motorhead. it's really about what strikes your fancy at the given time, tho anything involving jayne in a gunfight could be done to "The Ace of Spades".

Simon: "Were there any Feds?"
mal: "No, no Feds, just an honest brawl between folk."

Not much of a music listener myself.
I find it easiest to read fanfic with no music on. The quiet helps me concerntrate on what I'm reading ans stay 'in the zone'. But I usually read late at night, so it's dead quiet and no background noise...works a treat.

I do, however, listen to music when writing fic, and I usually listen to a whole variety of stuff, from The Shins to Rage Against The Machine, it helps with my 'writing flow' (I'm being obscure here I know, my bad).

I actually put a soundtrack to something I wrote - every chapter heading is a song, where the lyrics have significance.

But - a mix of Johnny Cash, Snow Patrol, U2 and a dash of Blink182 work for me.

I second the comment about Jayne and guns - check out YouTube, 'Born Too Slow'.

it depends, usually i listen to dance music because it keeps me happy and upbeat, lately though i've been listening to the Marie Antoinette Soundtrack and it is really awesome!

The music of the words is what is important, so I turn off conventional music when reading.

I don't read that much fanfiction, but when I write it, I usually stick on some Soundgarden (their song 4th Of July is a huge inspiration to one I'm working on) or Incubus.

When reading fanfics I never listen to music, I like to concentrate on the words. When writing, I always seem to end up listening to either The Cranberries or Fireball Ministry, for some reason.

If your after Firefly-esque music, try Zakk Wylde's old band, Pride & Glory. Seems to fit the mood quite well, for me, anyway.
