Hi there to all you Firefly lovers!

I am a recent addition to your ranks and consider Firefly to be the greatest TV show ever prematurely cancelled, by a long way.

Has there been much of an effort to lobby FOX to sell the rights to Firefly to someone else so that Joss can continue to make the series?

I ask because I was a fan of La Femme Nikita and note that it was successfully resurrected for a truncated 5th season after fan lobbying.

It is a travesty of natural justice that this show was butchered in initial release (why did they mess with the order of the episodes???) and thus suffered poor ratings. Given its clear success on DVD and re-release, there are millions of fans around the world who would tune in to a resumed Firefly, and I can't believe that a TV exec. somewhere hasn't realised this and decided to capitalise on it.

Apologies for preaching to the converted!

I believe Joss, in some way, shape or form, retained the rights, or re-acquired them, as he was able to shop the film to Universal.

Though, there may have been a caveat to the contract that allowed him to only do certain things with another studio, and Fox retained the rights to 'Firefly' in its current incarnation.

We'll likely never know.
