I was torn in half reading the ending to this very powerfully emotional serie created by the very talented Jacqui...I'm a Jayne lover, so I can't really stand to see him getting hurt...plus I love the Jaylee pairing.
Not that I don't like Simon, but, I don't know, it's just that I can picture him getting over Kaylee's departure more easily than Jayne.
After all he has River to care about.
I agree with CantonHeroine when she says that Kaylee is a selfish little twat...Jayne may be crude, rude and mean, but that's just what he believes the others need to see of him, in order to survive. It's evident that he has never been really loved and longs for the big L. as much as any other human being. And I believe he will be capable to give so much love in return once found the right person. Kaylee played with his feelings and that's something unbelievably cruel.
Simon may get back to his normal routine, maybe leave Serenity, too and find another safe place for himself and River to hide, but Jayne who was finally ready to open himself, now probably will just shield himself even harder.
That's just heartbreaking...
Jacqui's story reminded me of an another Jaylee angst fanfic posted on this website:

If you haven't read it I suggest you to do it...
I really would like to know your opinion about it.

Hey.
Thanks for saying kind things about me! I'm glad you enjoyed (although, I'm thinking 'enjoyed' is perhaps the wrong term to use here?) the fic.
Maybe, perhaps, you're being a little harsh on Kaylee, though. Her actions weren't just based on simple feelings.
I love Jayne, too, so I wouldn't break him completely.
That said, there is a second series of sorts to go with it, "Something From Nothing" and, from what you've said, I think you'll probably like the results of this one more.

Jacqui's DMN series and Something from Nothing is so intriguing b/c it's so true to voice. I can see/feel/hear this happening. They're like lost episodes. I also read Taking the Night a while ago and that broke my heart in a similar way b/c Jayne, the one they underestimate when it comes to emotions, gets his heart broken.
What I love about Jacqui's work is that her Jayne is intuitive and understands that Kaylee did the best she could and he's willing to wait for her to get it right.
I'm became a Jaylee shipper because of Jacqui's work. Itsawash, Rinny, Bookaddict, Belasera, Maantre, hisgoodgirl and I'm blanking on who wrote Consequences and another series I can't think of the name right now - they all support this addictive habit!
I look for Jaylee in the BDS and BDM every time I watch it (like today) and I still struggle to see it, but the Jaylee writers bring it to life!
Thank you all! Your work has eased the pain of this series ending too soon!
