Captian Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds- (Played by Nathan Fillion) the transport ship's captain. He is a witty, nihilistic and angry man who opposed the unification of the planets to no avail. In addition to commanding the "Serenity" for legitimate transport runs, he apparently engages is under-the-table entrepreneurial endeavors. So he's not above smuggling and stealing. He trusts practically no one.
Zoe- Served with Mal during the war and is very loyal to him.
Walsh- (Played by Alan Tudyk)- Ship's pilot and Zoe's husband. He is unassuming, self-deprecating and not at all the fiery hero type. He is apparently the calm one with a sense of humor.
Kaylee- (Played by Jewel Staite) The ship's engineer.
Inara- Nicknamed "The Ambassador" by the crew she has her own space on the ship because she's basically a prostitute in a time when it's perfectly legal on most planets. She only works for only high class and decent clientele and is working towards retirement.
Jayne- (Played By Adam Baldwin) He is a mercenary. Big, tough, unpleasant and untrustworthy.
Simon- The ship's doctor. He comes from a wealthy background and has had a privileged upbringing. He constantly disagrees with the captian and is always on the opposite point of view from him.
River- Borderline psychic. She can read most minds and has a tendency to speak not only what is on her own mind, but others' as well.
Book- Older and a little wiser than the rest of the crew and is a priest. He hopes is to spread the word of God throughout the universe.
