Here is the link for Petfinder disaster thread:

Check here for some latest news on Katrina and some states affected by the hurricane. You can find places close to your own heart in different states to help out. Individuals and groups are taking in animals that need shelter. If you need help you can go to either of these places to start.

Thanks for the links.

The wife & I adore animals & give to pet charities pretty frequently. We will be sending a donation to try to help out.

Am I a terrible-awful animal hater if I think that it's silly to consider donations to cats and dogs while people are still dying?

Well, you think about it, there are literally hundreds of avenues to donate to the many funds for hurricane relief for the human victims. There is FEMA, the Federal Gov't, local & state assistance, actors & singers doing charity concerts, etc. The NFL even has former stars taken up donations during football games. That would be easily hundreds of millions of dollars going to human relief.

How many things have you seen or heard of that is taking care of the displaced or abandoned animals? Who is caring for them except volunteers and a few animal lovers who are donating what they can, many of whom already donated to the human side of the disaster. I have donated heavily to both.

Are you wrong? Not for me to say, but maybe you aren't looking at the whole picture.

I see no reason not to worry about both, at the same time.

Am I a terrible-awful human hater because I would love to smack you good - at least twice - because of that remark?

And I'm thinking you weren't burdened with an over-abundance of schooling. Mal, Train Job

"Am I a terrible-awful human hater because I would love to smack you good - at least twice - because of that remark?"

Could be. Maybe my priorities are mixed up. If I had forty dollars to spend on assistance, and was faced with a dying man, and a dying cat...

The man would probably get forty dollars worth of assistance, and the cat would probably die.

I get the feeling some folks would spend twenty on the man and twenty on the cat.

And maybe there's folks who'd spend forty on the cat.
