Summary: Some blood can't be washed away.

Author's Note: This was written a godawful-long time ago (sometime around Christmas, because I was at home-home) and has gone through some serious revisions since then. It's not exactly what I wanted it to be, but what story ever is?

One thing Jayne didn't expect when he dropped into his bunk was the sound of his shower running. He knew he hadn't left it on, so that meant either someone else was in here, or had been recently. He silently crept to his ladies, selected a .38 named Annie, and stole back to the door of the bathroom. He waited for a few moments, until the water stopped running. He heard rustling inside, and chose that moment to shove open the door, gun blazing.

Inside, dripping wet and completely naked, stood the crazy girl. She didn't seem surprised to see him, and made no move to cover her body.

Jayne was at a complete loss for words. He nearly dropped Annie, but recovered and placed her carefully, safety on, back into the holster, though he kept his hand close, just in case.

River stood silently in the shower, water dripping from her fingertips and rolling down her legs, staring at him.

"What the hell are you doin' here, crazy?" His voice was strained, as she'd taken it by sheer force of will.

"Needed to wash the blood away. Blood of thousands. Takes so long, Simon would get worried. No one bothers me here. They're still not totally gone." She seemed to shake ever so slightly as she spoke, though Jayne couldn't tell if that was from the chill or the fear.

Good start. I'm hoping that there will be more to this story, by way of explaination. I'd be interested to read it.

Well now....gotta love Jayne angst about wanting to be with someone he thinks too good to be with him;)

Really wanna see how this scenario pans out:)

I tripped over this while wandering around.

This is great stuff, I like Jayne's barely there conscience and perhaps his realisation that he's being used and in a very un-complimentary way holding him back.
