"SO CLOSE TO HEAVEN"
A "Firefly" story

It was too gorram weird. Must be dreaming. That was it. This was not happening. The hands sliding over his warm flesh were not doing things to him that he had no mind to stop no matter how rutting wrong it was. He groaned at the sweetness that filled him as those gifted hands worked a magic on him that was all kinds of wrong and all kinds of wonderful. Her lips found a nipple, soft wet tongue lapping at it until the peak was hard and straining in her mouth as he began to wake. Teeth teased but gently. His eyes flicked open as her hands became more demanding, more intimate, and he found his control slipping. Dangerous. This was not supposed to be. No gorram dream was ever this real. He focused on the angelic face tipping and smiling up at him. His voice soft and husky with rising lust. Girl, what was she doing to him?
"River, no, we can't be doin' this..."
Her smile became wider. So gentle, so knowing. She kissed his nipple and raised her head, the slow rythym of her hands riding the silky sheath that bound him as the blood pumped loud and hungry through parched veins bringing him hard and throbbing in her eager hands before he could marshall enough wits to stop the automatic response. "Need you, want you." She sang. Her smile became a slow grin. Not evil but teasing. Did flippy floppy things to his hea
How in the 'Verse do you maintain your quality of writing given your sheer output?
It boggles the mind!
Might have to stop reading this at work, though.
Oh-oh. I kinda feel for Mal after seeing the look on the Preacher's face.
You can't take the sky from me
At first I was really....shocked...about River and Mal. It made me squirm a bit, as it just did not seem a very likely pairing at all.
However, as I continnud reading the story, I found that you had the characterisations so "spot on" that I stifled my doubts and continued reading.
When I got to the bit where River was explaining to Simon, I was sold... and by the bit at the breakfast table, it seemed like the most natural pairing in the world.
Well done Alison, and thank you. I;m hooked, I can't wait for the next episode!

You can't take the sky from me
But I can't help but think "So close to Heaven" has a vaguely funereal tone to it....
I did like the story, but I object to the word 'snit' to describe Simon's reaction. If one had a mentally imbalanced--to say the least--sister whose guardian one was, who had just been intimate with a man old enough to be her father, whom one didn't like much anyway, I think that one's reaction would be a little more than a 'snit.' 'Towering rage' would be far more accurate. If I were Simon my first thought would be to take some of my surgical instruments and perform a rather elaborate operation on the Captain without the aid of anesthesia.
First off...screw the freakin' freaks that post insults anonymously...we all know they are brainless/spineless/dickless trolls
As for turning that particular brainless/spineles/dickless troll off of firefly fanfic...THANK YOU!!! We are one dirtbag lighter and flyin' higher for it.
As for this fic...way to jump in at the deep end... was so glad to find this River/Mal amongst your fics...it is like lookin' for a gorram a certain speck of dust in my great-aunt's closet.
I am an AVID River/Mal ship ficcer and I am loving this fic.
So, send along thetitle to all your Mal/River fics and I will read them slowly over time and make up for all the brainless/spineless/dickless trolls running around the 'verse.

Going on to part two before getting back to my personal grindstone.

Fisrt...HOT!
Second...I am so glad I am not the only one to see the two as being able to complete each other.
<<<<<<<<<<"I was broken." She repeated softly. "So was Mal. Together we can heal each other. Together we can be whole.">>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
That is one of my all time favorite thoughts on the two of them and there fore my favorite line in this fic.
I also see the people on Serenity as boxing up each other into tidy little boxes with labels on them...like what you said about not mixing the contents...very true to River and the rest of them.
Loved the breakfast kiss...Mal needs some free and clear love in his life...Something he doesn't have to pay for with barbed words...The thought of Mal just smiling was wonderful! Sigh!
Inara...WOOT! I like the way you played her in that scene...she is so not as indespensible as she likes to believe.
Even though I haven't used this in any of my fic...I have always believed that they day Mal stops callin' Inara a whore is the day he realizes he cares for River. There by making Inara's profession a none issue. (that was just a little side tidbit from one author to another)
Wonderfully written and straight to the gorram point...Though River is a bit more advanced in the sexual arena than I would expect. (I ain't castin' stones...I am all for some straight forward sex romping.)
Loved the begining scenes and the breakfast table kiss a whole heck of a lot!
