Two more patches of The Balls and Bayonets Brigade

Wednesday, June 8, 2005

Same goes as for the previous two:
""The 7th infantry bit actually refers to Hotpoints fic. The Latin translation is done by Hotpoint, and actually reads Testicles and Daggers...but that was as close as we could get it.""

Yep, I`ll go with the round one too, I don`t wnat to say it maybe with the star the other way around :) or even with a small star inbetween the 2 bayonets and the yellow lines going across as before.

Just a few more ideas, looks good!

Is that latin? Or spanish?

Great designs! I like both of them.

Hmm... the Latin looks odd to me (although my Latin is *beyond* rusty). It looks more like Italian than classical Latin (maybe it's Vulgar Latin?) And isn't "pugio" singular, rather than plural? Anyway, I would put it as:

testes et pugiones

OK, I hope I'm not stepping on toes here -- I just started thinking of Latin phrases that could be equivalent to "Balls and Bayonets." I'm not suggesting you use these, I'm just having some fun. I tried to come up with things that had the same alliterative feel as the English version does. I wasn't always literal, but tried to preserve the sense. Here are some of my ideas. The last one is my favorite.

GLORIA ET GLADII
glory (also ambition, bragging) and swords

GLOBI ET GLADII
balls (lit: spheres, or game balls - I don't think it has the same double meaning for "testicle") and swords

TESTES ET TELA
Testicles and spears/missiles/swords/daggers

VIRILITAS ET VASTITIES
Manliness and destruction

VIRILITAS ET VENABULA
manliness and hunting spears

FEROCITAS ET FERRUM
Fierceness(courage, spirit) and iron (iron implements, usually with the sense of swords or arms)

Shiny!

Let me know if you ever decide to make some patches of these and sell them.
