Coincidental find at Bed Bath & Beyond

I was walking through a local Bed Bath and Beyond and I found this Serenity plaque. It measures about 8" square and cost under $10.

Wow! And that's the Firefly font, isn't it? What the heck's going on there!

There were a number of others: "peace", "charity", "love", etc... The glyph on it isn't the same as is in the official movie logo, I suspect these are in Japanese and not Chinese. On the box it indicates it is from the "Black Asian Squares" series by Michael Alan Designs. It does almost seems too conicidental.

That's the original Firefly glyph for Serenity. It is the symbol for "An", which means peaceful or serenity.

Interestingly enough, my middle son's name is ANTON. So when I was looking online for the Chinese characters for his name, that symbol always came up first. I think it's cool that he's got that special connection to our beloved show.

I saw this there as well, and held it up for my husband while I tried not to squeal uncontrollably like the little fangirl I am...
Yeah, I was disappointed that it wasn't the same glyph, but it's the same font!!!
the whole "correct" glyph thing is probably the only thing that keeps me from getting a tat of it...however, I think the movie logo is getting higher and higher on my "to do as a tattoo" list...

Japanese uses the Chinese ideograms for root words and their own phonetic "alphabet" (kana) for grammar (and foreign words).
This was probably a case of picking one word or character out of many that would apply.
I'd like to see what the other ones look like and how they were translated. Off to BB&B I go.
