Help from manderin speakers!!!

Friday, April 29, 2005

Okay, I was looking for chinese translations and I came upon this site (URL below!) and, being the franglais speaker I am, I have no idea if what I did (which I want to go onto a teeshirt) is correct at all! It's supposed to be "let's be bad guys" (though, the the literal translation is let's be bad mannered!) So, have I done it, or have I just completely botched up the whole language as it is?! Lermeknow!!! (PS: It's also got the little gifs of the translation from the webby... there are brackets in there and I had no idea what to do so I just put brackets in too!)

To start you off: delete the first line. I'm not joking when I say that it reads "NOUN beryllium [metallic element]."

I don't know the best way to say "Let's be bad guys" in Mandarin; that's very idiomatic. Some grammatical addition to perhaps 坏人 "huairen" (evildoer, scoundrel), 恶棍 "egun" (scoundrel, rougue, bully), or 歹徒 "daitu" (evildoer, ruffian, scoundrel). (The "bad guy"/villain in a story is 反面人物 "fanmianrenwu," but that's a bit much for Jayne.)

With an action verb, you can make a suggestion with 吧 "ba": 走吧 "zou ba" (Let's go), 吃饭吧 "chifan ba" (Let's eat), but I don't know about Jayne's meaning of (more or less) "let's manifest the bad-guy/villian/outlaw side of our personalities."
