"NO DOMINION"

A "Firefly"/"Enterprise" story

Written by Alison M. DOBELL

* * * * *

"And death shall have no dominion.

Dead men naked they shall be one

With the man in the wind and the west moon;

When their bones are picked clean and the clean bones gone,

They shall have stars at elbow and foot;

Though they go mad they shall be sane,

Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again;

Though lovers be lost love shall not;

And death shall have no dominion..."

'And Death Shall Have No Dominion' - Poem by Dylan Thomas

Captain Archer stared at his Armoury Officer. He simply could not do otherwise. His words conjured up outlandish, impossible images of horror that refused not to haunt his brain. This had to be a joke. A very bad one. But Lt Reed was not laughing and when one of the members of his team had to dash off to be violently sick it dawned on the Captain that the man was telling him the simple unvarnished truth. Commander Tucker stared at the Lieutenant, his throat gone dry, his eyes as wide as they could go. They had gone down to meet the returning shuttlepod after a rather disturbing and short transmission from the Lieutenant. They now knew why he had been so uncharacteristally upset.

Hi Ali,
I'm giving this one a 10-
I'm not an Enterprise fan and didn't know many of the characters with the exception of T'Pol, and that's because I'm familiar with Vulcan behavior. I skipped in the first 7 or 8 chapters the Enterprise aspect because of that. Nevertheless, by the time the stories converged, it was spectacular. I cannot stress this enough-KUDOS, for entering the ENTIRE story on-line, rather than piece by piece. It really enabled me to continue with the pace of the storytelling. I appreciated that, thank you.
Very graphic scenes dealing with Capt. Reynolds torture, my stomach knotted at so many points in it's telling. The story moved me and that's what I look for when I read these fanfics. Given a couple of your former fanfics that were slash (I'm not fond of them and I don't read them...however, been to a few sites where they are posted and they do receive good reviews) I was a bit concerned in some places that Simon and Mal were going to get it on...however, I was pleasantly surprised that they didn't and it really made me want to shout for joy!!! Your skill as a writer has been evident to me since 'Independence' and I've even gone to your website to read more of your fanfics. Ok, I'm done. Listen, I don't know if you would, however, there are some fanfics that I would love to see completed which have not been; do you ever find yourself re-telling or completing fanfics for your own private reading? Not for submission to any sites like these (you know, it's another's work anyway), if you have, I'd like to see where you take some of the characters from previous stories that I've read. Thank you. Great writing...

Ty, delighted you enjoyed this series so much, especially given that you are not a fan of "Enterprise" per se. As for finishing other people's stories whether for my own enjoyment or not I do not do this. I too have felt the frustration of investing time and effort following a story only to be left high and dry by a writer who did not finish it. Take care now and thanks again for the feedback. Ali D :~) You can't take the sky from me

This story was really fantastic. I especially enjoyed the merging of the two crews to solve this problem. Interesting theory on the Xindi being Reavers.

You are one of the best Firefly writers out there; thank you, again. I'm looking forward to your next story/series. Soon?

Ali:

Loved this series! Read it all in a single sitting. Good character psychology, drama, and appropriate angst thrown in. Makes me wonder if the original Reavers weren't from the Firefly's 'Verse in the first place. I'm looking forward to more of your innovative stories.

Ali-
Had a touch of insomnia so read the series again...it's so engrossing and while i've not seen 'Enterprise' i love the melding of the two crews and their interaction.
You are, by far, the best Fanfic writer on this site...Thank you for all the shiny stories.

Even tho as of my reading of the story & writing of this comment the true nature and motives of the Xindi have been fully revealed, that does not detract from just how good this story is. It's excellent! I've been a fanfic reader & writer for some time, but am new to Firefly fanfic. What a pleasure to find such wonderful stories! I hope you have more of them around! (I'm reading fanfic in chronological order, from oldest to newest.)

Finished your great story. You captured both crews so well. It's the first time I've read a crossover and boy did I enjoy it.
