Zoe’s Bond Part 2

Zoe was in a state of euphoria and was constantly seen fingering her new necklace, and smiling fondly. She already spent all her spare time, when she wasn’t doing something important on the ship, on the bridge with Wash.

Mal had caught them a couple of times in a more than friendly embrace. Zoe and Wash never apologized or even changed positions when interrupted, they simply looked at their captain with matching smiles on their faces. He was getting really frustrated and decided to have it out with her, once and for all.

He got his chance when Wash was away visiting his folks. Zoe was sitting on the bridge monitoring the ship’s systems.

“Zoe, I need to talk to you.”

“What about?”

“You’ve been mooning around here for weeks. What’s wrong with you and what’s that thing around you neck?”

“Nothing is wrong with me sir and this is a necklace.”

“Zoe....”

“Mal, this necklace came from my husband. He made it himself, since he had no money for a ring, and gave it to me on our six month anniversary. He told me a story about each strand. My life and his bound forever. He said this is my wedding ring or really our wedding ring, sir. It’s us, this little cheap piece of leather, it’s us. He just got back from seeing his folks, I’m going to greet him as a good wife should.”

With that, Zoe left the bridge in search of her husband and Mal just stood on there looking and feeling like a world class heal. He decided then not to ever interfere with their married life again.

I think this is a beautiful installment on the Wash and Zoe bond thing.

Only one minor quibble: "Like a good wife should" is not something I'd expect Zoe to say. Love the Mal moment!

Well I wrote that particular line because Zoe was being sarcastic. In other words she was telling Mal to mind his own business
