For anyone who took a course in engineering vibrations this is a very familiar picture. I was playing around with the idea that Wash wasn't paying too much attention to where he was going one day and the results speak for themselves. It definitely didn't come out quite the way I envisioned it, but I think it gets the point across.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. TenthCrewMember, GREAT stuff!! Znachki, unfortunately Tubby was the only casualty when the Tacoma Narrows bridge collapsed. That's the saddest part of the films of the event (at least for me - there's probably a commentary on my skewed value system in there somewhere). ShinyDude, the few times I've driven over the replacement bridge that's always in the forefront of my mind (had some friends in Tacoma and Federal Way years ago and spent some time in the area - after seeing the bridge collapse and studying it in undergrad I just had to drive over it whenever I got within five miles).

A further clarification (after re-reading my recent post) , I didn't actually see the bridge collapse...I've just seen the footage of the collapse numerous times. Just clearing up some ambiguity...

Yeah Soup - I know about poor old Tubby. But if he hadn't tried to bite his rescuer, he'd have made it out.
Lifelong Tacoma resident here - so grew up hearing all the stories. My fourth grade teacher used to drive the bridge daily, and IIRC, just missed being on it. She said it used to be a wild ride crossing it when the wind was blowing.

Wow, Znachki. Your teacher sounds like she was very fortunate. I had totally forgotten about the dog until you brought it up so it was cool to actually find that web page and learn about Tubby. What I want to know is what the reporter was thinking when he brought his dog along.
