The bodies were laid out side by side in their hermetically sealed chambers. General Wallace tried not to stare as he followed Sgt Ford down through the hold of the ship. At first he thought the man intended to go back out onto the planet surface but he stopped suddenly, a couple of chambers from the end of the row. General Wallace frowned. What was this?

"Sgt?"

Sgt Phinneas Ford swallowed slowly, in fact he looked anything but happy or comfortable. As the General's frown deepened, Ford pointed to the third sealed chamber from the end. "Beggin' your pardon, *shifu*, but the chamber's leakin'."

Wallace blinked. "*Wode ma*, how is that possible? They're hermetically sealed units."

"*Wo bu dong* but that isn't all, *shifu*." The man waited for the General to say something but when it was obvious he was expecting some kind of further explantion, Sgt Ford put his gloves on and gingerly tilted the end of the chamber. The General leaned down and began to go pale.

"Is that...?"

"That's *bu keneng*!"

"It's worse than that, *shifu*."

General Wallace was not sure his heart could take anything worse.

Hmm. The dust afflicting Mal seems to be different from the dust affecting the miners and the gangs. Or maybe he wasn't exposed to as much.

Figures that the Alliance's response is kill them all though.

You will find more about the dust soon, Bytemite, and yes you are right, that is a typical response from the Alliance to just kill everyone. Thanks for picking up the dropped 't' Nutluck, am now off to correct that. Was sad you had nothing to say about this chapter though so no idea if you even liked it. Appreciate the feedback, Ali D :~)

I always like your stuff. But I am sure by now most of you know I am one for few words normally. I have been pondering what River was up too.

Some of that will be partially answered in the next chapter, Nutluck. Thank you for the feedback, it puts a smile on my face. Ali D :~)

Back to reading again, after a break. (Family matter and trying to sort out my own writing.) I have some catching up to do, Ali! Sorry for not reviewing for such a long time.
I am much concerned about Mal's condition, but it seems to me that maybe Simon has made a discovery, and Book seems to know about it. Can't wait to see what Kaylee's role is in this.
Meanwhile, the Operative is now giving a lift to the Hands of Blue? Whoa, wonder what's next.
I do not, not, not like this dust! Will anyone live to tell the tale? That Urquart is a monster.
I'm thinking the Lady is going to get more actively involved soon.
