A "Firefly" Story

Zoe could have happily shot the lot of them but was surprised by the Captain's voice cutting through the dead air behind her.

"Polly, best you tell your men to lay down arms *mashang*!"

"But Mal.."

A twist of the gun barrel from Jayne had Rufus Pol cutting off whatever whining complaint was on the tip of his duplicitious tongue, Vera rammed up against the edge of his windpipe. Only getting a partial breath into his lungs he tried to nod but the mercenary just stared back at him, not an inch of give in his eyes.

"Do as he says!" He croaked out.

Not able to turn his head, Rufus could hear the clatter of guns being thrown down. Malcolm Reynolds moved slowly into the open so everyone could see him. Zoe didn't like the sheen of sweat on his face but was glad that Book and Jayne were there. On her own she had no doubt in her mind that Rufus Pol would have killed her in the blink of an eye and with not one iota of regret. Would probably have celebrated the fact afterwards but not in front of the Captain. No. In front of Mal he would be all sorrow and bafflement, wondering what in the 'verse could have happened. She could see it now only that wasn't how things had turned out and it was Rufus and his crew on the end of their guns not the other way around.

"Zoe, Book, best collect up the weapons."

Good use of the lock. Very curious how the new kid might get involved, he seems to be more in control of his abilities.

Very interesting, though with Mal being... well Mal. It will make things a lot harder in the long run to fix him up.

Really liked the action scene on the ship with Mal taking control of the situation, even as he's just about falling down ill. And his whole crew working together, like the family they are. Rufus should not have tried to mess with them! Very creepy scene with Kathleen...mental torture is as much a violation as any other. Good chapter.

Serenity's crew really IS family and Rufus is learning that distinction at his cost. As for Kathleen, you are so right about mental torture being a violation - even worse for not being visible, like mental illness, and thus not so easily understood. Thanks for the shiny feedback Ebfiddler, Ali D :~)

Holy smokes, sounds like Mal is getting a lot worse. Almost at that point of no return. Simon better hurry with Jayne, or Zoe may be having to take over the ship!

Can’t say that Polly was ever a likable guy. Zoe has me leaning to her side with every new chapter Alison. He better start telling the truth from here out and hope he can drum up a little sympathy?

That Operative, what can I say? If creating better worlds allows you commit unspeakable acts then I hope this guy gets “offed” by someone soon! His sends chills down my backbone.

So we have a new player in the game. Nicholas Bey, sounds like he may be the one to help out Lucy, at least I hope he does.

Nice episode again Alison, keep ‘em coming. Z

Yes, Zzetta13, Mal has a bit of an uphill battle ahead of him but with Simon's skill he couldn't be in better hands. As for Polly, Zoe nailed him right back in the days of the War as not being someone she could fully trust. The Operative is creepy and scary I agree. As for Nicholas Bey you will find out more about him soon. Thank you for all the shiny and thoughtful comments, Ali D :~)
