Serenity got 70% of the votes http://www.nasa.gov/namenode3 in NASA's Name Node 3 Contest for the International Space Station, but lost to "Tranquility." So unfair -- my faith in democracy is shaken. Win or lose, we still got a Serenity mission patch from PirateNews.

Actually, Serenity didn't win - Stephen Colbert's fans out voted us, 230,000 to 40,000... The problem was, they didn't list the suggested names, or the votes they had, so no one realized that they were so far ahead :o/ NASA went with 'Tranquillity' over 'Stephen Colbert' - though they did consider naming a waste disposal unit (aka Toilet) after him!

Colbert did get his name in space: "We don't typically name U.S. space station hardware after living people and this is no exception," Gerstenmaier joked. "However, NASA is naming its new space station treadmill the 'Combined Operational Load Bearing External Resistance Treadmill,' or COLBERT. We have invited Stephen to Florida for the launch of COLBERT and to Houston to try out a version of the treadmill that astronauts train on." - http://www.nasa.gov/namenode3
