Jayne cautiously entered the infirmary in the hopes that Kaylee would be awake. He wanted to tell her he was sorry that he hadn’t been able to protect her. She was asleep, so he hovered beside her, unsure of what to do.

“You need to let go.”

Jayne jumped. He spun around, hand on his gun. But it was just the girl from the box. “What didja say?”

“Your pride. You should let it go now so it won’t hurt as much.” The girl stared at him with big eyes.

Jayne blinked. “Are you crazy or somethin’?”

She smiled. “Crazy.”
