Faith, Hope & Jayne
Or
Past is Prologue

Disclaimer: This is fake, fake, fake. None of it ever happened except in the deepest, darkest caverns of my mind. All these people belong to Joss except for Hope. She's mine, the poor dear.
Feedback: Much appreciated in the form of Mt. Dew!
A/N: My first Firefly fic. Please be gentle.

Chapter One

Persephone
Ah, glorious silence.
Captain Malcolm Reynolds sat down on the catwalk next to Jayne and heaved a contented sigh.
"I never thought they'd leave."
The crew of the Serenity had stopped on Persephone at the behest of Badger, who'd had a delivery job for them, and had intended to head out of atmo as soon as they picked up their cargo. As luck would have it, Serenity had other ideas and had thrown a catalyzer. That meant the ship, and her crew, weren't going anywhere until Kaylee fixed her. That, Kaylee had explained in a lot of terms Mal didn't understand, would take at least twelve hours.
"So Mal," Jayne had said, waggling his eyebrows. "This mean I can go find me some women for the night? I ain't had me any good hoo-ha since the Heart O' Gold."
Mal made a face. "You just got some hoo-ha last week!"
"I said *good* hoo-ha, Mal. Azrael's barely passable hoo-ha."
"Let 'im 'ave a 'ittle R n R, Cap'n." Badger had said, tipping his hat as if he'd committed some chivalrous act. "Cargo'll keep a day so long they's in the Colonies by Friday and it ain't like ya goin' anywheres soon. Jus' contact Linderman an' let 'im know when ya be there."
"No thanks Badger," Mal shook his head in refusal. "There's just too much trouble to be—"
"Sir?"
This from Zoe who'd been quiet during the entire exchange. Mal gave her a look and, when she jerked her head toward the door and began walking, he followed her out.
"Zoe, what the—"
"Today's my anniversary, sir." Zoe stated. Short and to the point, that was his second in command. "It would be a great gift to Wash and I to have the day off to spend some, uh,
"permission to kick you in the shin sir?" hahahaha, loved it.
2 small things that for me personally could be different:
The 'dead bitch' remarck by Jayne, Jayne loves women, he's rude and crude, but loves women. Look at the way he treats the whore in Heart of Gold. Don't think he would have called her 'bitch', maybe in Chinese, but not in English.
River keeps calling herself 'River' and Simon 'Simon', she doesn't say 'I' or 'you'. At first that's funny, but too much annoyed me a little to be honest. It makes her sound dumb and crazy. Personally I don't think she's either.
Jayne and River are my favorite characters on FF, so maybe that's why I wanted to let you know. It's just a personal feeling, I could be wrong. But since you're planning to write more (which you definately should), especially the River thing must be said. She can talk like a normal person, so don't make her sound 'retarded' the whole time maybe.
Anyway, I liked it a lot, you seem to capture the crew really well. Keep up the writin', you definately have a good mind for it, so keep em coming, oh and quick. I wanna know more about the white-haired girl

You can't take the sky from me

Wela, I get what you are saying about the River/Jayne things. I was trying to make a play on Simon Says but I guess I failed miserably. It's not the first time.
With Jayne, I don't know if I think him calling someone a bitch is that out of character but I can see where someone else would think it was. Things come to light later in the story, though, so it might be better if he didn't call her that.
Thanks again!
ohhh I did get that 'Simon says' part, so you did well there. I just (again, big River fan so..) thought after a few sentences River sounded so 'daft' if you know what I mean. Sorry didn't mean to say that you can't write, cos you can. It was very captivating, I mean I can't wait to find out what this girl's connection to Jayne is and all. Thanks for the great story, I will try and make a mental note of your name so I'll find the rest of the story when you post it. Oh don't make us wait too long okay?
Ohh I love Jayne, please don't make it his fault whatever happened to that girl. So many FF fans I meet have a thing for Mal and think Jayne's a big mean stupig log (okay he kinda is, but I love him for it
). So one favour: if you haven't got the full story in your head yet, could you make Jayne NOT to be the bad guy here? If you must, let me know and I won't read the sequel okay?I HATED ARIEL, need I say more? (okay hated isn't quite right but it is my least favorite)
Don't worry about Jayne. He's my favorite character, too, and none of this is his fault. He'll come out of this story okay. I can't tell you anymore about the girl without spoiling stuff though.
Glad you like it so far and hope you like the rest.
Ok, I'm back- what was I saying? Oh yeah, the fic- seriously- really good. i'm casting my vote into the yay pile for the simon says scene, and you've got me intregued as to who the girl is. (not easy to do for been there, seen that old me!) Looking forward to the next installment
Oh, and Wela, how could you "hate" Ariel (as much as any brilliant FF ep can be hated anyway?!) Best ep- loadsa Jayne moments- plus at the end, when he doesn't want Simon to know what he did. His volcano moment, I feel, as Niska would say. The real Jayne. Shiny!!
