"Running to, not from."

Monday, January 8, 2007

When I was watching The Message, I heard Tracey say: "Running to, not from." And all of a sudden I got this lovely Kaylee idea. :) Well, whether it's lovely I'll leave up to you, but here I am. The symbolism of this small piece is simple. When Kaylee has a hard time, she runs towards her sanctuary, the one place she feels completely at home: her engine room. (Extended Commentary below).

The picture actually pretty much speaks for itself. In a larger sense, I kinda think of our boat the same way myself: there's no place I'd rather be, since I found Serenity. And in times of trouble, I, too, would want it to be the first place I run to, not from.

Colors may look a mite weird, but I wanted to get this "typical Kaylee colors" feel going: bright, sparkley, and shiny -- like her hammock. It's not a very pretentious work (I was kinda spent after my Zoe piece); I just wanted to have a good Kaylee feel, in Kaylee colors. The sort of feel that makes you want to run right after her, never to leave our boat ever again. :)

P.S. Sorry for the repost; I had forgotten to activate one corrective layer.

Oh...this is just 10 kinds of shiny, asarian! Definitely gotta give you mucho props for creating this:D

Though I have to admit...the multi-hued colour scheme? Make me think River added one of Simon's medications into the atmo scrubber. Cuz damn if I wasn't thinking "acid trip!"

;)

Finally got my computer to connect long enough to come back here and comment.

I like what you've done here Asarian. Very different from your other works, but no less expository.

I like how you've made Kaylee running to "her engine room" the center of the piece and pulled from the focus of the edges so that our eyes are drawn where you want us to "see".

Although the color scheme is different for you - I like it. Kaylee would wear colors this bright! She'd be right at home. :)

Very well done!
