(Mal still has his gun unholstered. River her two 'swords'. She stops looking over her shoulder, towards the crew. There is an awkward silence. Mal holsters his gun)

You're not gonna make this any easier are you?

(River is still standing still, almost frozen in place. Almost afraid to look at the carnage around her. Mal walks upto her, takes her weapons off her, and drops them. Gives a tight smile, and nods towards Simon)

You just gonna stand there? Go see to your brother.

(River looks at Simon still lying there, and starts walking uncertainly towards him, mal squeezes her shoulder and gives her a small shove. He turns to face the Special Ops team still standing there, now with the weapons lowered)

If you are planning no letting us live it would be a good notion not to let my crew die of their injuries.

(On of the special Ops calls for medics over his comm, heard in the background as Mal turns around and starts walking back towards his crew. None of the others seem capable of standing. Except Inara, but she is holding pressure of the doc's wound. River is kneeling next to her.)

What a lazy crew, just lying around. Do I pay you to just sit there?

(Zoe just looks at him. Blinks a question. Mal is slightly unsteady on his feet, has a big grin on his face. And can barely get his words out over a painful laugh)

(The crew that can look at him almost incredulously)

We beat the the Mighty Alliance. Special forces, Zoe. We got the better of them.

(As soon as Zoe says this, Mal falls backwards to the ground. Unconscious. A beat)

(Inara scurries over and feels for a pulse)
