Which lego kits? That's a very good question. I don't precisely know because my old box o' legos that sits in the closet until I want to model something has the collected flotsam of legos from the 80's to now. And of course Lego kits are WAY over-priced. But let me think. . .
I believe most of the specialized pieces came from Star Wars kits (the Millenium Falcon, X-wing, and Luke's speeder if I recall correctly).

"Which lego kits I need" - honestly, every Firefly-class vessel has been customized, at least to some extent... improvise! It's not as difficult as it might sound. Give it a try, at least.
You know, building models becomes much nicer if you don't have to look at the instructions all the time...
