Yes. It is pretty obvious that that is the same gun. I think Jayne must have given the gun to Kaylee and when the fighting broke out River took it from her. River never gave it back at the end of War Stories and in fact we never saw what she did with it at the end. Now we know that she had it the whole time after War Stories and up until Objects in Space.

I don't see how you can say that. I realize we are looking at different sides of the guns in the two shots, but the shape and features on each side of the barrel are not the same, and from the way I see it, the trigger guards are slightly different as well. I'm not an expert on guns by any means, never owned one and never will, but I am hoping someone else who does know a bit more will offer and opinion. On a previous discussion thread someone else said they are not the same gun, but can't remember who that was.

No they are not the same. I think the 1st one is a Desert Eagle the other is a .45. (I could be mistaken on that last one since I’m not extremely knowledgeable on firearms.)
Notice how the one from OiS has two sights one on the front one on the back while the one from WS does not, also the OiS one has the distinctive upwards triangular design of the Desert Eagle series.

Not the same weapon. In addition to the 'triangle nose', look at the the slides of the pistols. One is indented and the other is more rectilinear.

In my defense I will say this - a .44 Desert Eagle has the indents on both sides.

first gun is a standard .45 auto longslide, second is an American Arms gun, probably .44 Desert Eagle. The triangular shape of the Eagle's slide is clear in the shot. The flatness of the .45 isn't so clear.

They're not the same gun. In OiS, the pistol is a Desert Eagle. It looks to be a .44 Magnum or a .50 cal.
The pistol in War Stories looks like a Colt .45, M-1911 with an extended barrel.

The gun in the bottom pic is a Desert Eagle. No Doubt about it.
The pistol in the top pic is NOT a 1911 model 45. The frame looks like a Beretta (note the shape of the trigger guard) or more likely a Taurus clone. The Beretta and Taurus share the same overall frame shape, but the Taurus has the safety mounted on the frame (like the gun in the pic), where Beretta mounts the safety on the slide. The slide doesn't look like a Beretta or a Taurus slide, but it is probably a custom slide fitted to the Taurus frame.

The gun from "War Stories" is a Firestar Megastar, in .45acp, with an add-on compensator.
The gun from "Objects In Space" is a Magnum Research Desert Eagle. The top of the barrel is smooth, if I recall, and that would indicate either .357 or .44 magnum as the caliber.

Werzbowski is correct. on the models of pistols.
The lower is a modded Magnum Research Desert Eagle and the upper is the Firestar megastar. A very cheap knock off and not even close to a 1911 or a longslide 1911.

The top gun is a .45 longslide. The position of the control mechanisms (mag release, safety, de-cock lever) is identical to pictures you can find if you google ".45 longsile" images. But the cincher is the position of the screw on the hand grip. The Megastar doesn't have a screw there, so it can't be that. We've established that the bottom weapon is a Desert Eagle, but the Eagle doesn't have a screw there either. But the .45 Longslide does. Even the trigger type (solid, versus free) on the top weapon indicates that it is .45 longslide and rules out both Megastar and Desert Eagle.

hey genius, the top is a .45 colt longslide with faded bluing, the second is a chrome finished desert eagle .44 gee even if u don't know your guns the difference in chrome and blueing is obvious. You call yourselves fans?

The firearm in the first picture (from "War Stories") is a custom Firestar Megastar. It's chambered in 10MM, not .45ACP - obvious because Star Arms provided an optional add-on kit with a compensated slide and upper rail for the 10MM only . It was a 'sport' package, the compensator (equipped with in-line ports at the top of the slide, starting in front of the sight rail) was for recoil reduction (duh!) and the upper rail was a weaver-type for mounting long-eye relief scopes for hunting and target use. Specs on the gun are a 14+1 capacity in 10MM, single-action (converted from double-action), and the finish is 'Starvel' polished nickel (not chrome, stainless, faded bluing or otherwise). The slide in the picture just has fingerprints and smudges all over it that caught the lighting. The grip screws are correctly placed (try looking up a picture under the correct model name), and the reason the trigger is 'solid' (a single-action slide trigger) is because the manufacturer also provided drop-in kits to convert the pistol's double action to a single action - in fact, the entire trigger assembly in the pistol is free-floating and can be lifted out of the gun. Once again, a modified Firestar Megastar 10MM.
The firearm in the second picture (from 'Objects in Space') is a Magnum Research Desert Eagle Mark VII. It's chambered in .44 Magnum. Specs on the gun are a 8+1 Capacity, single action, adjustable sights, and the finish is 'Bright Nickel' . The distinction between models is very clearly made by looking at the position of the serrations at the rear of the slide. The newer "Mark XIX" models have modified serrations that extend all the way to the back of the slide, underneath & past the safety lever. The distinction between different finishes is easy - the Mark VII was only finished in blue, matte stainless steel and bright nickel. The distinction between the two calibers (Mark VII was only manufactured in .357 and .44 Magnum) is made by simply looking at the muzzle end of the barrel. On a .357, the muzzle of the gun is actually concave (curved inwards), but on a .44 it is not. Try looking here for a clue:

The first gun looks like it's from the S&W 4500 series to me. I agree that the gun in the bottom pic is most certainly a Desert Eagle.

the one on the bottom is a de .44 b/c the 50. cal. version dose not have the little piece of the berel extending out the end of the gun so it can stand up the the power of the .50 caliber bullet. the one on the top is some sort of of a costom colt dont know what model, prolly a 1911 b/c of the thumb safty but it definatly had alot of costom stuff done to it.

ok chuckleheads, the shiny pistol is an AMT .45 long slide, also known as a hard baller, arnold used one to kill one of his victims in terminator 1, the second pistol is a desert eagle. Cal unknown because they made many.

Firstly enough about the fire arms wish they would bring the series back. In a world full of scifi ineed of money.Firefly delivered not only an acceptable story line but great special effects , a great cast, and was in total far superior to anything out now including the multi million dollar Battlestar Galactica Remake,which is overly complicated and full of empty plots. Josh should snag that wasted money and have them pour it into his creation Firefly. In my opinion reviving Firefly would not only be money well spent but would give us the viewing public and fans some decent scifi entertainment.P.C.B.

The top gun is made by Arcadia Machine and tool, (AMT), and is a .45 caliber Longslide. Otherwise known as AMT Hardballer .45 Longslide. They are no longer in business. Yhe Bottom gun is a Desert Eagle .357 Automag.
