DragonCon Fan Table Final Meeting and Important Info
Tuesday, 09 August 2005 02:25:11

The final SEBC DragonCon Prep meeting will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2005 at 2:00pm. It will be held in the Marriott Marquis – lower lobby level, the one where the fan table will be. For those unfamiliar – come in the front door of the Marriott, go down the escalators immediately in front of the concierge desk and look for us. If there is a convention going on we’ll find a corner somewhere out of everyone’s way. The setup on Friday for the booth is not going to require a lot of people. Luckily we have a very portable, professional setup that can easily be put up by 2-3 people (Thanks Rich!). However, we will of course need people to help man the booth during the duration of the con. Please check the website www.southeasternbrowncoats.org to sign up and send in your info to help out. If you are unable to sign up for a particular timeslot please stop by the table and we will happily put you to work! On Friday, the Shindig is scheduled from 10pm to 1am. We will need people to help setup as we only have about 20 minutes or so to setup after the last panel that is held in the room. We need a few teams with an organizer for each of the following: Chairs – Lead: CL_Techie (Parson) csteinisme (Carla), Serenity’s Dad (Tim) NEED ONE MORE VOLUNTEER. They will stack and remove the chairs starting at the back of the room through the front after the last panel ends. Chairs will be stored in Tribe Track room across the hall. Leave about 30 chairs in the room, stacked in a corner. Wall Decorations – Lead: Serenity Mr. cstenisme (Bill), NEED FOUR MORE VOLUNTEERS They will take the wall decorations into the room and hook them up through the drop ceiling. Tall people would be ideal. Greeters/Crowd Control – We are looking for a couple of people to work the entrance line into the door (Greeter/Crowd Control). Someone in costume would be ideal, but not necessary. Could work in shifts. Need pleasant, outgoing personality. Teachers – We are looking for people who know how to play Mah Jong and Texas Hold Em (and possibly Chinese Checkers) and would be willing to mingle through the tables periodically to teach. Clean Up Crew – Lead: Cary Anyone left when the party is over would be appreciated. Please use the sign up email address on our website to let us know what you would like to do! As always, thank you so much for all of the support that we've seen from the Browncoat community. This is going to be a great con! Thanks! Jen

I saw the poster!
Tuesday, 09 August 2005 03:40:08

So I went to see "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" today, and as I'm in line at the counter I look up to see the Serenity poster in the lobby! At which point I went a little bit fanatic, asking the clueless ticket girl when they got the poster in and running over to look at it up close in person. (I also came back after the movie to look at it one more time.) Of course, the correlary is that I still haven't seen a trailer anywhere but on my computer or on SciFi last week. But right now I'm focusing on seeing a poster for the BDM in an actual theater! PS. I really enjoyed "Charlie" and there was a trailer for a sequel to "Ice Age" featuring one of my all time favorite saber-toothed squirrels, Scrat. So today was a pretty good day.

A Little Tai Chi in the Morning
Tuesday, 09 August 2005 13:02:16

Where I live we have a pretty large asian population. In fact, the closest grocery store to me is a Lion Market (totally asian market)...tho the Safeway is just beyond it. Anyway, almost every morning this summer as I've left for work, there's been a group of older asian folk practicing tai chi out in one of the common areas. Now, I don't think I'd have felt this way before Firefly, but the music's very calming and tai chi is incredibly graceful. I seriously think that, in many ways, Firefly's made me a bit more tolerant of asian cultures. I have a little bit more appreciation for it when I see it. -Taylor

Cherry
Tuesday, 09 August 2005 16:48:53

So, this is my cherry entry into the World of Firefly. Good, I love the show. Alot. In fact I think the show has really touched me deep, like really, really deep. Ours is a show that inspires humor, hope, and the fact that even if you lose you can always win again, somehow, somewhere. It also shows that no matter what a home can exist for everybody out there, no matter what. Firefly and Serentity are the cutting edge of mature science fiction, something that I suspect many have been searching for.

Dublin Screening
Tuesday, 09 August 2005 23:05:53

I just booked tickets to an advance screening in Dublin (Ireland)! I booked them pretty much the second I heard they existed. And rumour has it; one (or more) of the BDHs will be there. But either way, I'm going to see 'Serenity'! Brilliant! It's the final cut of the movie, too. Any Irish Browncoats; the tickets are probably still on sale, so get booking! UGC Cinema, 24th of August. I just hope, if there is one of the BDHs there, it doesn't go like this: :vomit:  Who else here is going to the Dublin screening?
