Working on my first honest to God oil painting--trying to remember how oils work is throwing me a bit... It's sad in a way that computer technology has almost made oil painting and actual drawing obsolete..I was glancing through the latest issue of Illustrators and noticed that digital work out numbered the traditional paintings about 5-1. I'm not knocking good digital work..some of it can be stunning and I've played around with it myself..But I find that I work better with tactile media..I have to feel the paper and brush..gotta get my hands dirty... I have an idea for a painting and I hope my skills are enough to carry it off..nothing is more frustrating then having an idea lodge itself in your head and not be able to express it..Well, thanks for listening and thanks for all the positive comments on my last blog... you guys rule..

I'm lost, lost in the woods
Wednesday, 08 March 2006 04:34:57

I don't know what is going on, but I feel so low right now. Not sad or depressed really, I just feel like I want to cry. It's weird. I can't pinpoint anything that's actually wrong, I just feel like breaking down and crying right now. I used to do it all the time when I was little, just start crying without knowing why. It's not normal. I'm not entirely sure it's a good thing either. I feel like River. I work, I function like I'm a girl. I hate it because I know it'll go away. The sun goes dark, and chaos is come again. Bits, fluids, what am I? Feels like the sun has been dark for a long while. I get confused. I remember everything. I remember too much. And yet I don't remember much of anything at all.

Ideas
Wednesday, 08 March 2006 06:53:34

Ideas for analysis: Mal's faith - lost, or transformed into hatred? Possibly expanded to an examination of all faiths or lack thereof in the 'verse (mostly Buddhism and Christianity). Simon and Kaylee - development from attraction to love, or static? Inara - exploring the moral context of Companions, whores, Jayne, and other such. Mal and Inara - why do they like each other, why don't they say anything? Character profiles. Episode reviews (including film and comic book). Note: these are open for comments, but really, this is a post-it note so I can remember all these things.

Ok so I'm really worried by this- someone tell me I'm not crazy, PLEASE!!

I'm watching a documentary and it's all about the media and marketing industries targeting children. I knew that this happened, I'm not naieve but does anyone else thinking that a 12 year old girl dressing like a 16 year old, or a 16 year old dressing like they're in their 20's wrong? Am I the only one who is scared about how the verse is turning out? Children being told that they need certain products, that they need to grow up faster than what they are supposed to. The documentary said that soon children will be spending almost a trillion dollars a year- that essentially these children are being targeted and that they are coercing their parents into spending large amounts of money essentially on go-se. I knew that this happened, but I just can't believe that people are profiting off children's insecurities and needs like this. This worries me: these poor children are being manipulated, brain washed even and then the fact that parents are giving in are just as bad- if I had asked for a $200 anything at 8 years old I would only be getting that for my birthday or Christmas. I know that this is "a sign of the times" but we can't use that as an excuse can we? I know that kids yell loud, I know they throw tantrums- my brothers are at the delicate ages of 6 and 9- but we can't just say it's a sign of the times, or that they throw tantrums until we give in. Am I going mad? Is this something that I shouldn't be caring about? But then I can't not care about it because I have little brothers and I want children one day- I don't want my daughter or son to dress like the idiots they have on TV passing as role models. But then what do you do when your child is getting bullied because they have the wrong pair of shoes- that happened to my brother earlier this year, a kid in his class even told him that Santa didn't like him because he got crap presents. I know that I shouldn't be worried but this REALLY SCARES ME!! Apparently they even have marketing awards called The Golden Marble those awards basically reward successful marketing campaigns aimed towards children. I don't know why I wrote all of this, it's just upsetting for me to see the 'verse going under like this, it never used to be this way, and don't get me wrong but there are the beautiful points, I guess this just makes me angry.

Lunchbox in Progress
Wednesday, 08 March 2006 17:26:53

Okay, so I've sort of turned an idle thought I had one evening into something of an obsession :banghead: Just sort of thought it'd be neat to have a Firefly lunchbox, and seeing that there were none to have, figured I could try and see if I could make one myself, sort of a craft project. Soo... now it's my baby. ;p Hopefully the rest of my materials will show up this week sometime. I'm praying the method I'm planning on will work, and assuming it does, I'll post a little how-to around here for anyone interested. Actually, it's been turning out much harder than I originally thought it would. I thought the art would take no time at all... but I haven't been doing much art in a long time, so I keep re-discovering techniques, and changing things, etc. The top piece came easily, cause I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted. The sides are coming out much tougher to do, though. All I knew originally was that I wanted to show all nine of the crew. Going from there, I basically ran through all the screencaps I could find and picked out my favorites, trying to narrow it down. First two attempts came out a little... Kaylee-centric, though :) So I finally had an idea... It's a lunchbox, food can go in there... why not just focus on the galley scenes where they're all eating together? Getting the pics together then was much easier once I had a theme. I can get all nine in there in some form or another, and I wanted to go for that feeling of family I always got from watching those scenes. Course, I'm still struggling with exactly what sort of composition I want, and how to tie it all in together... Think I've got a good idea out there now, but I've come to the point where I've lost all objectivity on it. I'm literally not seeing what's actually there anymore ;p So, it's time for a short break from it before I paint myself into a metaphorical corner. Maybe a good day's sleep will give me some much-needed perspective... I've also got a possible composition up in the Blue Sun Room, hoping for some objective assessment would help me out. Anyways, I've you've read through all of this, you're my hero ;p Mostly just felt the need to decompress for the day, and I was already here on the site... And I do tend to go on and on... ;p Keep on truckin' fellow Browncoats. :stupid:

Look about with wondering eyes
Wednesday, 08 March 2006 21:20:46

You'll be suprised what you see. I am visiting a friend. She has a hiking trail near her house that is several miles long. She's been out on that trail many times but untill two days ago, she'd never stepped off it. It's a very wide, well graded, man made trail. The trees and brambles an bushes are right up against either side but while you are on that trail, you are seperate form them. They are a differnt world. We went hiking on that trail and it felt wrong to me. Why should we seperate ourselves from nature this way? From the path everything looks dead. Everything feels dead but that isn't so. I know that isn't so. So I suggested that we do a little exploring off the path. She was unsure but up for a go. So we worked our way through the brambles that edge the path with minimal injury and were imediately rewarded with a brilliant spray of crimson amid the brown and the gray. It's a bush that I know as red twig, so named for the vivid color of its bark. At first it seems like the only color in the whloe place but that's not true. There are some pink and blue roks of that way. And look at these tree branches. There are little buds of green and yellow and red on the ends. And over here, the most unusual little shoots pushing up through the have frozen muck. I wonder what they'll be. There are fantastical shapes formed by the trees. Hollow oaks and spiralling vines and odd places where two trees have become one. It seems this whole place is a marsh in warmer weather. You could never explore in here in summer with just your tennis shoes and a stick to help you over fallen trees. She's amazed at all the things I can see. "I need 3 more pairs of eyes" she says. No. Just slow down. Don't look ahead. Look around. Stop and feel the trees, the stones. Feel the dirt between your fingers and don't be afraid to get your feet wet. None of this is dead. It's just sleeping, on the edge of waking. Now She want's to see and expolre more. She leads the way and finds her own wonders. Today, we had a picnic on a fallen tree in a place you can't see from outside the woods/marsh. We just sat listening to the birds singing and the ice melting. We felt the whole place coming slowly awake around us. This whole place will be cut off by marsh and muck (and mosquitoes) in the summer, when everything is "alive" and blooming, when most people will think about how beautigul it is. It's beautiful and alive now. You just have to look. If you look for wonder and beauty, you will find it. You just have to open your eyes.

THE NEW WORLD a cult film?
Wednesday, 08 March 2006 22:12:02

Hey all I'm not sure if anyone here other than me saw this flick when it came out, but I thought it would pertain here, since it could easily be talking about SERENITY. I was just checking my usual sites, and I found this link on imdb.com to a web article that talked about how THE NEW WORLD is in a position to become like the next cult film sensation. For those curious, here's a link to the article.

My Graphic series
Wednesday, 08 March 2006 22:59:39

Sorry I havn't added anymore. I havn't been home (where I have the pics stored) all week. Well, I've been home, just not during hours reasonable to be on the computer during. Thus, no new pics. Also, I have a bit of creative blockage. Seems my creative enegerys are being sucked into use by my spanish class. (260-something words on six, very vauge pictures) Meantime, I'll be brainstorming series for each of the characters to start on once I finish River's bring me to life. Suggestions welcome!
