Well, here we are again. At the start of some brand new weirdness from the depths of my psyche. This one was a swine to get started, until I suddenly found a little character piece I'd started a while back. I have to admit that I am going to stay out of most of the threads for a bit - too many ideas wanted to come and play at once. I'll let my fic do the arguing for me; that is after all the point of it. And unless I get something from Joss that directly and flatly contradicts anything I've written, then I'm going with what I think. I don't really have to cite my influences by now - most folk who read me have a fairly good idea. But flick between 'Neuromancer' and 'Dune', whilst having something like 'House of Flying Daggers' playing in the background, for the vibe on this one. I like conspiracy theories, of the everyday political variety. And I really do firmly believe that nobody at the top of any heap got there by being nice. So...Inara is mewed within her golden cage. Zoe is an unpregnant widow. Jayne is happily married to the ship's cook. Simon and Kaylee have a fledgling relationship that is moving past the merely physical. River is the ship's pilot, now just unstable rather than outright nuts, with a crush on Mal. And Mal is...Mal. Stubborn, funny, unexpectedly kind, and completely at sea as far as his emotions are concerned. We have all kinds of folk want to see these people again, and not all of them are fuzzy-like. Welcome to the AnJLverse. You can't say I didn't warn you.

Okay, so I'm almost done my Wash pony. All I need to do it get material for and make his shirt (this takes a long time, seeing as I need someone to drive me to somewhere with materials) I'm just wondering, which dinosaur should I put on his side? The T-Rex, or the Stegasuarus? I don't want to put both because all the other ponies will only have one. I will be posting a picture of what the original pony looked like before I turned him into a Wash, for those who are interested. Here's the list of what I think I might paint on all of there sides, feel free to comment, complain, or give suggestions. Or all three whatever floats your boat. I'm still not sure if this is what I want for Mal and Zoe, I think I might rather have something else for Zoe, but I just can't seem to think of anything. Well, Shades of the Past is finished. And, honestly, I intended, at first, to let Shade die off and move on, having a few other ideas floating around in the vasty nothingness between my ears.:knife: But I didn't. I couldn't in fact. The story got under my skin while I was writing it, and more and more things began to pop into my head, and before I knew it I was eleven chapters and tens of thousands of words into a sequel, called Long Road Home. Eventually, I will move on to those other ideas, Lord willing and the creek don't rise. But for now, I think I'll stay with this, and see where it goes. I want to thank everyone who has commented on the story, and encouraged me to keep going. I'd never done this, and your words really helped keep me going when I thought I might just quit. Happy reading, and smooth sailing, Bad
