It's been far too long since I visited this site and it warms my heart to drop in and update my log. Well I have had a job for going on four weeks now. It is so refreshing to have the search be over and all the stress relieved with that first paycheck. It is amazing what a little cashy money will do for your morale especially when there are things like bills, car repairs or those pesky compression coils to keep up with. I managed to actually see half of Slither the other day. My brother had rented it but returned it before I could finish it. I only watched half of it but was struck by how the small town sherrif that Nathan plays reminded me of Mal a lot. (Maybe it was the stiped kind of brown pants ) Anyway I was enjoying it and some time along I will finish it. I have gone quite a ways with my fanfic which i still haven't gotten around to putting it on this site. Maybe its the daunting task of making into chapters. It is just all one big story at this point about twenty typed pages. I love working on it though. It lets my omagination wander the corridors and catwalks of that beloved firefly and rub elbows and shoot the breeze with our crew. I will be contented with that if i must while I wait for the 2nd companion to the show to come out and hope for another Serenity movie and as always I am holding till Mal gets back. Holding the line with you my fellow browncoats who wear that dusty brown coat with pride and long to sail in a firefly.

what do you think the chances of them making a second movie would be? i think they could but thats just me hoping.

Because I'm really kind of sick of waiting for Children of Men and Pan's Labyrinth to show up in a theater near me, I'm going to go ahead and post my Top Ten list for 2006. Those two will just have to go on this year's list next January. [b][u]Runners Up:[/b][/u] 20) Night Watch 19) The Prestige 18) Slither 17) Silent Hill 16) Lady in the Water 15) Happy Feet 14) World Trade Center 13) Hard Candy 12) Flags of Our Fathers 11) Hollywoodland [b][u]Top Ten:[/b][/u] 10) JOYEUX NOEL - In a year when the war in Iraq should have ended, it's good to see a movie like this. One that not only denounces war, but does so in the name of Christmas. The fact that the film is trilingual (English, German, French) makes things a bit confusing, but the message comes across loud and clear. 9) SUPERMAN RETURNS - A lot of people railed on this movie for being boring. They must've been watching a different movie. While certainly not the most thrilling movie released this year, Superman Returns reminded us why we need Superman, and Bryan Singer's steady direction shows just how much difference the director's touch makes (Brett Ratner, the guy who ruined X-Men 3, was originally supposed to direct this). The opening titles alone are worth your money. 8) PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST - Everyone who was disappointed in this film was either asking for far too much, or forgetful of the fact that this is only half of the story. Some of the best special effects 2006 had to offer, and one monster soundtrack helped make this the 3rd highest grossing movie ever. 7) MONSTER HOUSE - After Pixar's Cars left me seriously disappointed, the only thing to ease that disappointment was Monster House. Not only was it more interesting, it was simply a better film on every front. What Robert Zemeckis did with The Polar Express finally looks palatable onscreen. The CG work here is amazing. 6) LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE - Sometimes simple is better, and that's kinda what Little Miss Sunshine is all about. It's funny when it needs to be, dramatic when it needs to be. Despite being rated R, it's more or less the perfect family film. 5) (tie) CLERKS 2 / ROCKY BALBOA - The only reason I put both of these in the #5 spot is because they're about the same thing. People get older, but that doesn't mean they're completely done for. Rocky, Randal, and Dante all showed us that there's still life to be had after one's prime. These are arguably the best films that either Kevin Smith or Sly Stallone has ever directed. 4) THE DEPARTED - It's a pretty great movie, if you can stomach the violence, language, and an ending that makes you ask "Why?" Not "Why?" as in "Why did that happen?", but more of a "Why did the movie have to end like that." The ending drops the ball on an otherwise perfect movie. And for that, it gets 4th place. 3) CASINO ROYALE - Stands toe to toe with my personal favorite Bond movie (Goldeneye), and frequently borders on greatness. Daniel Craig is easily the best Bond since Sean Connery, and the opening credits are relentlessly cool. 2) V FOR VENDETTA - This is my personal favorite of 2006, even though it's in the #2 spot. It's not perfect, but there are enough great moments and top-notch scenes that make it worthy of any collection. Political allegory, science fiction, social fiction, action, suspense, it's all here, and it's fantastic. Hugo Weaving's V is the best character of 2006. 1) STRANGER THAN FICTION - Stranger Than Fiction worked on me like no other movie in 2006. It managed to mesh comedy with some pretty weighty drama, a stellar cast, and WIll Ferrell, who was surprisingly restrained. The premise was manipulated so effectively, that it didn't matter if the whole movie seemed implausible. That's why it's stranger than fiction, because things are so off kilter that a normal story would collapse under the pressure. TWICEONSUNDAYS

Happy new year, all. Well, I haven't written an entry here in a few years, but I'm in need of a semi-anonymous outlet, and heck, I already have a username here. It's more than a bit gripe-y, so feel free not to read if whinging offends. It all just reminds me how great Firefly was, and how much I miss being able to watch it every week. I own the dvds, but it's different than setting aside that weekly tv time. Basically, I'm having post-holiday 'holy crap I have a lot to do' anxiety. At the moment, it's mostly focused on France. Sigh. I think I've been living in England too long - I seem to have developed some sort of automatic negative reaction to France. Anyhoo, I have to arrange a trip there to see some manuscripts at the Bibliotheque National. Alas (somewhat amazingly for someone who moved across the atlantic sight-unseen) I have a hard time with change and/or new experiences. What if I get lost in Paris? Can't find a hotel? A place to eat? What if I can't manage the entrance interview with the librarian. I can only read French - I certainly can't speak or understand it. What if I can't figure out how to pay for an underground ticket? A bus ticket? What if I get stuck there forever? I'm struggling to organize a trip to Oxford to have a look at some stuff there - how will I manage france! Sigh. This on top of the fact that I was in a bit of a slump pre-Christmas, and need to pull myself out of it if I expect to get a PhD before my visa expires in two years. And I can't seem to convince anyone how little I do everyday. They just say 'oh, I'm sure its fine'. ITS NOT FINE. After which I'll be totally unemployable anyway. I swear, every time I read the careers department booklet it depresses me. Want to be a librarian? More school. Work in a museum? Voulunteer for a few years, and then you have a chance at maybe getting an underpaid job if you are really really lucky and the gods are feeling gracious. Professorship? - oh, sorry, you went to Cambridge where there is no chance for meaningful teaching experience, go away. Publishing? unpaid internship, again with the gods. YAY!! Ok. I'm done. Sorry. Just my history of slight anxiety catching up with me. MY CBT techniques should kick in any time now.

I'm on the bus coming home from school today, and this 11th grader and his friend who I've never talked to before are in front of me. I'm wearing my 'Battlestar Galactica' sweatshirt, and the guy asks me if it's a good show. So I'm babbling aout how much i love it, and when I'm done the guy's friend says 'Oh! That reminds me! Duuude! I just bought Firefly!' and I SCREAM and jump forward a little. We spent the rest of the ride fireflying. These guys, are officially my two new best friends =]
