Freedom and the open road.
Saturday, 16 July 2005 00:13:15

Never written a blog before but thought this would be a good place to start . I passed my driving test a week ago and i'm amazed at how much freedom its given me. I don't have to get up so early in the morning to get to work (no waiting for beelzee-bus), which is a big plus . Its little things, like meeting some friends at the pub last sunday night (tho i didn't drink). I've been invited out before but i couldn't go becuase it was difficult for me to get there and even harder to get back home. I kinda live in a strange area, its classified as semi-rural being london greenbelt, and most of the people i know live in the towns that make up greater london. Getting the bus takes at least an hour, and thats when the busses turn up on time (which ain't often). Now it takes about 10-15mins to get there. So basically i've only had my licence for a week and I already can't imagine life without it.

Shut up, shut up, shut up!!!!

No, I'm not yelling "Shut up!" at any of you lovely people. I'm yelling at my brain. It's waaaaaaay late here, and I can't sleep, because my thoughts won't hush up. I'm not really worried about anything, and my thoughts aren't bad. They're just constant. Did I pay that last phone bill? I need to remember to send my Grandma flowers in the morning. If I go into labor at 2 am, what will we do with Zoe? Would those peaches taste better if I took them out of the fridge and left them on the counter for a while? When does my gym membership run out? Did I remember to take my iron pill? What time is my next doctor's appointment? Did I wash Jon's black slacks for the wedding tomorrow? - Oh, man I still have to wrap their gift. What time is it? I need to go to the vet and pick up some more heart worm preventative. Maybe I should have went to law school instead of finishing with my BA. Did I lock the door? What time did the plumber say he was going to be here? Aaaaaaaaargh! Shut the hell up and let me sleep! I came in here to type for a while . . .maybe this'll help. Rant over

Harry Potter 6 Reading Blog - SPOILERS!!!!!
Saturday, 16 July 2005 13:11:16

Oooooohhhh very exciting... I have to say this is the best of the bunch so far. I have just reached the chapter titled 'The Half Blood Prince' which is a quarter of the way through the book. I have decided to have a break because the excitement and pleasure will be over too soon. So far we have seen a much darker world, a number of people we know and are fond of (Ollivander, Bones and so on) have just disappeared which is horrible. Plus the wonderful Bill is engaged to the awful Fleur woman. That is shockingly bad. Anyway, Snape is super in this one - JK has done a great job of keeping him mysterious and a possible loose cannon. I would write more but I must return.

OH MY GOD! Lavender and Ron! That is sooooo wrong, I am not sure I can say anything else I am in too much shock. Plus if Ginny and Harry get it together I will be miffed, I like Luna/Harry and Neville/Ginny but then, I am not JK. Mind you, to be honest the last 75 pages (term 1)have pretty much all been relationship stuff which is a bit much. The book has really slowed down after the amazing (and in my opinion the best) start. Ah well, I still can't put it down. I am having to force myself to do laundry and go shopping just to make it last. I can't see it lasting until tomorrow; Rowling is just too exciting an author even with all the kissing (bleugh). Back later...

I CAN ROOF!
Saturday, 16 July 2005 20:04:48

That is what I learned today. You see, our Habitat for Humanity is going to have a Women Build, a house completely built by women. To raise funds for this build, they're having a mini-build. We're building a playhouse that will be raffled off. I called them and said I could help out Saturday morning and they said, "Can you roof?" I said sure. In a previous blog I mentioned that I have some experience roofing and that I felt that if given the opportunity, I could teach people how to put shingles on a roof from start to finish. I didn't actually think I'd get that opportunity anytime soon. When I showed up at the Lowe's where we're building the playhouse, I was introduced as "The Roofer". And then everyone started asked me questions about how I wanted to do the roof. How many people are you going to want? What equipment will you need? I soon realized that I was the only one there with any roofing experience and they were expecting me to show them how to do it. Goodness! I took a few deep breaths, read the back of a bag of shingles when no one was looking, thought back to all the things I'd ever been taught that had ANYTHING to do with roofing, and said a quick prayer. And you know what? I remembered everything I needed to know. I remembered how to do the starters and to leave an overhang and how much to leave for a reveal and how to do the ridge caps and everything else. I taught about 6 or 7 other women how to do it and when we were done, it looked pretty dang good. True, it was just a little roof atop a little playhouse, only about 10 feet high. We only used 2 1/2 bags of shingles overall. But I feel good. I feel that I accomplished something today and I proved to myself that I could indeed teach people how to roof. Now I can't wait till we start the real house!

HP Blog SPOILERS

Well, I have done my second lot of laundry today and have discovered my actual age is 1.1 years younger than my real age which is pretty cool. This means I will finish HP just in time for bed so I will probably write my final blog when I have had time to digest it after a good nights sleep. So far though I have to say I am a bit fed up with the lack of plot. There seem to be three plots at the moment: 1) Malfoy 2) Harry's Lessons with Dumbledore 3) The bloody romances/loves None of them are inspiring me at the moment - I need some action but I think it is about to kick in as we have just discovered The Dark Lord has torn his soul into many pieces and Harry is off to kill a piece soon. I am enjoying it but it isn't having the emotional impact I was expecting, hey ho maybe it will come and I will regret wanting it! I was longing for some loving and now wish there was less of it, we are probably going to have deaths now. JK PLEASE don't kill off Neville, I couldn't bear it. Anyway off to bed now with the last 130 pages of the book... Night night and I will see you in the morning
