Battlestar Galactica

I could never get into the old one, but the new one has sucked me in. I tried watching "Lost," I tried watching, I dunno, whatever else has popped up this season (the 'Stargate' series) and I just can't get into it. Plot points fly by for no reason, characters come and go for no reason........ it's like watching "Enterprise." I don't care that stuff blows up; the story is lame. "BSG" impressed me with the pilot, the two regular-series episodes tonight seemed to hold together as well. The second was directed by Marita Grabiak, who also directed the Firefly episode "Jaynestown." The sense of paranoia hangs around the edges, and there's a definite structure, so you know who has to make the decisions, and you recognize who to watch out for. We're only just now getting to the mechanical Cylons... and they're freakin' scary. The writing (and the acting) aren't QUITE what "Firefly" was/is... there is only one Joss Whedon, and the creators of "BSG: The Remake" aren't that. But Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell are so very good, and Katee Sackhoff is so very blah, it kind of evens out. Worth watching, SO far, but I'll keep my eye on it. Even a hit like "Desperate Housewives" started to fuzz its characters by the first half-dozen episodes, and I got lost on "Lost" by episode two, because it was unreasonable of the show to not introduce EVERY survivor during episode one. That's sloppy. "BSG" is neat. Far far better than the "Dune" miniseries(es), and worth getting into, 'specially cuz it seems it's going to run a few episodes longer than "Firefly" (blah). (qs)

....What about that which hurts like a tamahde!!! Good gawd, my right hand's pinky is still in incredible amounts of pain! I was workin' on my VW bus this morning in about 43 degree weather (mistake one) and I was trying to knock the ball joint's bolt out so I could adjust it. When it broke loose, my hand slammed into the frame, brusing the crap out of my pinky and cutting it slightly. Wow, there just are words to describe the pain I felt. All I remember in hindsight was a loud clunk and yelling OW followed by imaginary Chinese swear words (I kid you not...this is how Firefly has influenced my life!). Two hours later, some Neosporin, and a band aid later the adjustment's been made and I'm sitting at home typing up this blog and it still hurts. Oh my gawd does it hurt! I don't think it's broken; I can bend it. But it almost makes me shiver when it throbs! If the codes work right...here's a pic of it about 10 minutes after it happened. Sorry for the blurr. And there's also a picture from about three minutes ago.

I've long been lurking the serenity movie site, occasionally posting here & there. I watched Firefly when it was on Fox, what bliss, heh. Mourned its passing, cheered when it came out on DVD, hoorahed when I heard that the movie was coming out. Well, uh, I have my DVD's to carry me till the movie arrives.
