I'm so pumped for Drive...
Sunday, 11 February 2007 02:54:41

I think it's pretty cool that people actually read and commented on my last (and first) blog entry, as I don't have a terribly interesting life. Anyway... So, as the title of this entry says, I'm really excited for Drive. Nathan Fillion is an awesome actor and it'll be neat to see him in a new show. FOX better have the sense not to cancel it before the first season is even through! Apparently his indie film Waitress did really well at the Sundance Film Festival too, which is cool. I heard a rumor about a contest sponsored by FOX where you can send in an idea for a miniseries and they will actually make it into a miniseries. Has anyone else heard something about this, or is it just a rumor? My friends and I were going to submit something about Firefly for fun if it's an actual contest. Is it true that Joss Whedon dropped out of Wonder Woman???

Finally! I found them!

Cool Idea
Sunday, 11 February 2007 14:25:54

Yesterday I had a really cool idea. A mini statue of Joss, in the style of the Jayne Cobb statue in Jaynestown. I was discussing this with a couple people on World of Warcraft (one of my characters is part of a guild called Brown Coats, I actually convinced one of the guys to create an account here), everybody agrees it would be a cool idea. I'm thinking of taking a sculpting course this summer at the AGO and make my little Joss statue, I'll be sure to post pics.

Preparing for Valentine's Day
Sunday, 11 February 2007 16:19:46

Valentine's Day is almost upon us, and I don't have a valentine. What's a girl to do? Desperately search for someone for the day? Mope in her room with a box of chocolates? Sniff at those enjoying the holiday and complain that it's just a corporate marketing emotionally blackmailing people into spending money? Nope. Well possibly, but not me. Instead I chose to create Valentine's Day banners! Well what else was I going to do? I *had* planned to study since it's an expensive weekend to go out and I had an exam coming up, but now that that's over and done with I stayed in with not a whole pile to do. Creating banners seemed like fun. Therefore, I have a bunch of banners that I'll be posting in the blue sun room over the next couple of days. They're all free for everyone to use and, to be honest, they're all pretty simple, but I felt like spreading the love this year  Aside from that, my life is very quiet. Right now I'm figuring out what exams I should do next. I know, I know, I just finished a tough one... still, a teacher is only as good as what she can teach. So my choices are as follows: ECDL Advanced - which is pretty much the same syllabus as the MOS, so I'll try and get those done soon. ECDL Webstarter - a new qualification brought out by ECDL / ICDL in web design. It looks like fun! I have a little HTML knowledge so I'd like to give it a go. ECDL Imagemaker - like the webstarter, except in graphic design. Despite the banners and animations, this is a subject I know next to nothing about, so I'd love to try it and learn more. FETAC Computer Modules - Further Education and Training Awards Council, in case you were wondering. Unlike the others, these awards are recognised only in Ireland, but they usually translate easily to similar qualifications abroad. I'm still getting information on the different modules and what's involved, but I'm interested as it's the kind of stuff that could eventually lead to positions in lecturing at college level. That would be a long term project though! I sense lots of homework in the future... think I'll have some graphics / fic fun first... Happy Valentine's Day, all!

Mutterings

Workin on the final installation of Union of Souls. Think Simon and Kaylee can actually survive long enough to finally get hitched? Also, just for some extra amusement, I am posting several photos of actors who play my original characters as I play out the story in my head. Any thoughts on better actors for the parts? I'm all ears for opinions.

Animated Short Nominees for 2006 Oscars
Sunday, 11 February 2007 23:47:42

Hey All One thing that I'm psyched about the invention of YouTube and BitTorrents is that stuff like the nominated shorts (animation, live action, documentary) are now more available than every. I finally got the chance to see about 3.25 of this years nominated animated shorts. I say 3.25 since one of them has about a minute of it on YouTube and isn't the complete one. Here are this years nominees for animated short. And this year has a really solid bunch. THE DANISH POET- This is one from the Nationa Film Board of Canada. The NFB is famous for it's animated shorts and documentaries, so it's nice to see one of their shorts nominated. Can't really comment on it since there's only like a minute of it available on YouTube. I posted the link to it for your enjoyment.
