An interesting philisophical question

Wednesday, August 6, 2008 11:42 PM

I'm working on a board game. I'm studying video game design, which has it's roots in board games, so that's where I'm working at the moment. I've already done a Serenity game, so now I'm working on one based in the DC universe. Anyway, my question.

What is the purpose of a hero's life? Most of what they do is reactionary, which means that there is no goal other than to stop other people's goals. They exist simply to endure. I actually had the same problem with the Serenity game I made. Mal has no clear goal, so I had no clear ending for the game. In this case, though, there's not even a way for different superheroes to compete with each other. At least in the Firefly 'verse, there's money to be made.

My ultimate goal here is to come up with an ending for the game, but the underlying question is still the same. What do heroes strive for?
