Making Armor

This has nothing to do with the verse. I just feel the need to squee somewhere. I'm have recently been told that I'm ready to be certified in SCA heavy weapons fighting. (If you don't know what the SCA is this should help

So now I just need to build some of my own begginer armor so I can go bash people with a stick. Yay! However, I'm poor so my first set of armor will be made of what used to be large plastic barrels. I can buy said barrels for $5. Eventually, I will attempt to build myself some leather armor but an armorweight hide is expensive.

And if anyone out there can point me to some good how to sites, it would be much appreciated. Especially if it has women's armor info.
