As school ends

Thursday, May 24, 2007 4:43 PM

I look at my students and, for the most part, think they are pretty good kids. Sure they can be annoying, rude, and difficult, but they really are trying to do the best they can. I am a little worried though as they head out there...the world is not friendly and they are ill equipped to deal with it because all school has become is a place where we spend all year working on the material contained in a single test so that we will not lose our jobs and so that our students will be prepared to pass the final test of high school that will give them their all important diploma. Gone are all the real world life lessons we used to teach. Gone are the hands on , project based lessons. Gone are the activities and the memorable experiences, and the lessons that provide students the opportunities to develop and grow as a person...So when you look for the future of America and think of those who will become world leaders, doctors, lawyers, business people, you'd better hope the only crisis they face is one involving a multiple choice test.
