Danger: Puddles!

Friday, July 16, 2004 1:43 PM

Commuting to a large metropolitan center like New York City every day takes some doing. You gotta know where you're going, how to get there, and which way to walk when you pop up out of the subway. If you don't, you're the one that has walked up half of a whole block only to discover you're heading the wrong way. Trust me, I've done it.

But y'know, there are some things that guidebooks and maps don't ever tell you about New York City, whether you are travelling for work or just visiting, so I thought I would enlighten you.

For today, I shall give you my first piece of advice for walking through the Big Apple:

Don't walk in puddles! I mean it, even after it has rained, like, minutes ago, there is often something other than that soggy gray pigeon that has pooled there. Puddles often contain pee, people, and not pee from cats, dogs, or iguanas on leashes. It's pee from people , people. So if you'd like to keep your toes happy and your flip-flops stinky-free, for the love of Mike, hop over those puddles.
