I know this has been discussed over and over, but it is stuck in my head thanks to the filk contest.

I think Wash is his handle. The term wash can have a lot of meanings including being a wash out. Maybe he didn't make it thru flight school. I can see him saying the heck with it and dropping out. Maybe he has a habit of flying back thru the wake of the jets. I guess what I am saying is that Wash can have any name he wants. He doesn't have a name.
