Fan Fiction Challenges...How do you write them? Please Help

I was reading someones fic on here and they got a list of words from this link http://www.geocities.com/maegovannen/Firefly/69FicChallenge.html and the page is about fan fiction challenges. How do you write one? Do you have to use the word at least one time in the fic?
