Magic Mushrooms

All praise be to the gods of fornicatin' monkeys!

Normally, I would post this on LiveJournal, but since I pretty much stopped going there when I found this site, it will get posted here.

Upon reading my daily news, I came upon this article:

http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/07/10/psychedelic.research.ap/index.html

[rant]Illicit drugs doing good things for people? Imagine that! These people took Psilocybin in a controlled environment and most of them had a significant spiritual experience. The compared it to the birth of a child or the death of a loved one, very significant events.

Even two months after taking the drug, pronounced SILL-oh-SY-bin, most of the volunteers said the experience had changed them in beneficial ways, such as making them more compassionate, loving, optimistic and patient. Family members and friends said they noticed a difference, too.

Huh, imagine that. Drugs doing good things. Maybe we need to take a stop back in this country, look at the real things that should be illegal, such as wasting $4 billion+ of the taxpayers money to send 2,500+ men and women to die for what? Yeah, we got Saddam, but we could and should have stopped there. What do we have to show for the rest of the time we have been there? People get blown up and killed every day, same as before, only it's still our fellow citizens. Pull out, let them blow each other up for a while. Instead of bullying other countries into thinking the way we do, we should focus on things back here in our country, things that have gotten way out of hand (like congress giving itself a raise every year for the past 10 while failing to raise the minimum wage even once).

Sorry the drug rant turned political, I just have very strong issues with the leadership of this country. Anyhow, aside from being a lot of fun as a recreational drug, this article and hopefully many more to follow show that there are beneficial uses as well for these substances. To finish up this little rant, I'll point out some statistics: roughly 330,000 people in the US die every year from cigarette smoking related ailments, and more than 80,000 die a year due to alcohol. The deaths from all illegal drugs combined times 1,000 might add up the same total, while deaths from something as simple as a little weed are non-existant.

How appropriate, I found this article linked at the bottom of the other one:

http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/07/10/tobacco.cancer.ap/index.html

Tobacco has the potential to kill 1 billion people worldwide this century. One billion. Maybe you can't comprehend that number. 1,000,000,000. Yeesh. And it's still fucking legal?

Bill Hicks would be proud, were he still with us today. [/rant]
