To take a Creative Writing class or not to take...

Saturday, April 15, 2006 7:00 PM

(Yup, I'm procrastinating. Told ya I would. )

I don't know why, but I've got it in my head that I should take some Spring/Summer courses, if this semester wasn't hard enough. The advantage of taking some Spring/Summer stuff is that I wouldn't have to take so many courses during the regular year. Right now, I'm just trying to see what's available and what will fit with my degree. I'm sort of limited at this point in my program, plus the computer program that is supposed to show me what I need to take is really picky so stuff I've already taken isn't counting towards what I need (stupid Degree Navigator ).

But one thing I could take, and which really interests me, is the Creative Writing course the university offers. I've taken Creative Writing classes before back in high school and I really like writing. I also like the thought of earning credit for doing something I do when I should be studying anyway The only thing putting me off about taking it is the department's one requirement:

A 20 page portfolio.

The number of pages I have right now: 0. Well, maybe 6 if I count the two Firefly fics I've written but I don't know if the professor/deciding person would consider it. But I could be wrong; the description says the portfolio is just for me to demonstrate my abilities to them. I suppose the content doesn't really matter.

But this is a full year course, a two hour class at 7:00 at night no less. I don't know...
