Random thiings that are annoying me

Major video rental chain store never ceases to amaze me with their utter incapability to stock things I wish to see. I'm not sure why I even bother going in anymore. Well that's not true I go there because they are a block from my 3rd floor walkup and I'm really lazy. But I digress.I first noticed their bland insipidness when I wanted to rent a copy of the movie MASH. A fine bit of filmaking from 1970. OK it was a longshot that I would find this at major video rental chain store but like I said 1 block, lazy. Not only did they not have the said entertainment in question but nobody in the store even new the movie in fact existed. It won an oscar people. Donald Sutherland, Eliot Gould, Robert Duval. Do these names mean nothing?
A bit later on I'm feeling a bit down and insignificant so I figure I could use a bit of gut busting guffawnery and easy intelectual superiority so I go down looking for some MST3K goodness. Becuase you know that no matter how pathetic your life is at least you can sleep easy knowing you avoided making this world we live on worse by not having anything to do with producing hygiene films in the fifties. Nothing.
Fast forward to september 2005 - the movie Serenity is about to be released and since I'd heard good things about this Firefly thing and new people who had raved about a test screening I thought I'd rent the series so I would be up to speed on the 'Verse. And what do I find: 1000 copies of Pauly Shore is untalented, crude, and boring for 90 minutes, 10000 copies of Jim Cary is talented but still crude and boring for 90 minutes, And not one copy of Firefly.
December 20th. Now I know I'm getting Serenity for christmas because it's the only think I specifically requested and the dad being is prety good about those things. But that's 5 whole days away. It's been 2 1/2 months since I'd gotten my fix and I was really desperate. So into the major video rental chain store I go. Hey it's a new release maybe they'll actually have it in stock. And maybe River will run for parliament on the lets torture some more psychic teenagers ticket. This time at least one member of the staff new what I was talking about. Of course they'd only ordered in like 2 copies so of course they were already rented out by the time they oppened their doors that morning.
Now consider saturday. In honor of the Cusak film festival being held in the hidey thread I thought I'd rent Bullets over Broadway. I've never gotten arround to watching it and by a weird quirk of fate it's main character shares my name. You know I don't think I need to go on with this. do I?
Utterly unrelated annoyance:
Mcafee virus scan. The time to warn me that I have been infected with a trojan you can't remove that resides in a directory that my computer doesn't seem to think exists is not 11:30 on a sunday night. By the time I scrub the file path leading to where your possibly nonexistant trojan is supposedly being all trojanic, make sure my dat is up to date, and rescan my hard drive it's 1:30 and I've been up far too late without the usual acompanying pleasures associated with late night pastimes. (You know drinking, stumbling around a dance floor, and casual but protected sex.)
I remain your humbly annoyed servant,
David
