Shoulda known

Every summer, my brother and his children and my cousin and his family and my family get together for a week with the grandparents. There are hours of air and car travel involved, so it's a big thing. For the last two years, this yearly shindig has been at my house. It's always a fun week, except my brother (love him) always ends up getting into a very heated verbal disagreement with someone (frequently me) over something idiotic. Yeah it's a fight, but not the kind Jayne would appreciate. This year's fight was over the rules for Taboo. (I told you it would be idiotic). I have always figured these fights were rooted in our childhood and something we would have to iron out sooner or later. This summer, however, I finally learned what the main problem is.

My brother is Alliance.

I showed Firefly to my cousin and his wife and my brother, starting with the pilot. My cousin's wife liked it (I later showed her "Out of Gas"). My cousin had been drinking and I'm not sure he followed it much. My brother, the Alliance scum, was unable to suspend "reality" for a few minutes and just sit back an enjoy. He kept picking at things, saying we already have this or that and why don't they. He would make comments on which of our BDH's were what in story formulas ("So, he's the one who sticks out like a sore thumb," when Simon showed up.) He was quite irritating. Of course, he knew he was bugging me so he did it more.

If I had an airlock, I'd have been thinking of using it. Hmmmm. Yup, I'd have used it.

On the good side: My hubby actually said Firefly was a good show (surprised me!). AND...I called the Universal rep for my area and Serenity WILL be in my town on Sept. 30. Woooohooooo!
